Munich Aerospace Forum: Evolution of Flight Testing for Pilot Induced Oscillations at Boeing Commercial Airplanes

TUM students have the opportunity to participate in this year’s DLR_Uni_Summer_School, taking place September 16-20, 2019, in Braunschweig. The students will prepare, conduct and evaluate different flight tests. The theoretical content will be applied in practice during flight tests with the research aircrafts of DLR (Cessna 208B Grand Caravan) and TU Braunschweig (Dornier Do 128-6).
Participation can be recognized as “Praktikum Flugversuchstechnik” (Flight Testing Lab).
Application is open until July 26, 2019. Please contact Moritz Speckmaier with full name, matriculation number and a list of relevant exams you have passed (Introduction to Flight System Dynamics and Flight Control or Flight System Dynamics 1/2 is required).
Next week, our former postdoctoral researcher Prof. Arnab Maity will give a guest lecture on „Optimal Control with Applications to Aerospace Vehicles“. Everyone who is interested in an insight into several topics of optimal control is warmly invited!
In summer semester 2019, the lecture “Flugbahnoptimierung” (Aircraft Trajectory Optimization) will be held again at the Institute of Flight System Dynamics at TUM. The course materials will be available in English, the lecture itself will be held either in English or in German, depending on the wish of the students. More details can be found on the lecture page or in the attached poster.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Heller is proud to announce the second run of the lecture “Flying/ Handling Qualities towards Pilot in the Loop Oscillations” in the upcoming Summer Semester 2019.
It is the objective of the new elective lecture module to impart basic knowledge up to the state-of-the-art concerning the manifold flight dynamics challenges within the development of modern FbW aircraft (from preliminary design up to testing, clearance and certification).
More details can be found on the lecture page or in the attached flyer and poster.
We are happy to announce the next run of the supplementary course (Ergänzungsfach) System Identification in the upcoming summer term. Details can be found in the attached pdf. For further information feel free to contact Barzin Hosseini.

The Institute of Flight System Dynamics welcomes Professor Sébastien Gros from Chalmers University of Technology (Gothenburg, Sweden) for a guest seminar from November 5th – 9th, 2018 (seminar dates: Mon – Fri, 9-10:30 am, MW 3618).
The topic of his seminar is “Machine Learning in Optimal Control” and should give an introduction to the technique of reinforcement learning (i.e., “adaptive optimal control”) that uses the available measurement data gathered over the operation time to continuously increase the performance of the optimization algorithm and its result.
More information and the contact for questions can be found in the announcement.
